the beach. Always have, always will. Tho, being somewhat of a whitish type girl I can't stay out at the beach lying on the sand for hours on end. Doesn't work, tried in my yewt and got major 2nd degree burns more than a few times---!!!
I was just saying thru email to my BF Tasha having access to the beaches is p'bly why I still live in So Ca, cuz I would hate to leave my beaches. Tho the islands would be an ok substitute if I was offered a job and home there.
Anyhooo, back to running. Yep, was suffering big time, trying to get out of my physical discomfort and out of my head. Wasn't sure which was more of a pain in the ass today? I'm sort of a wanderer when I run by nature. Kinda take the unbeaten/trodden paths more or less. Today, I noticed a surf trail that ended at a cliff (naturally), but I had to investigate before the actual cliff, you see. I shimmied down through some make shift dirt/rock that I had to wedge myself thru sideways, thankfully I don't have a lot of junk in my trunk or I would be there still. Made it to the cliff's edge, it was way cool! This area of the cliff has been taken so many times by the surfer's that there are notches/hand-holds in the rock formation itself....sahweet! Ended up on a pretty endless strip of beach and sand (sand is hard to come by here in the winter, rocks are brought in to protect the beach from erosion). Took off my running shoes, and did the barefoot running thing thru the hard packed sand and surf. It was heaven.
Better than Cadbury mini eggs. Oh yes, it was.
The sun was out, it was warmer than up here. The smell of the ocean, the sound of the surf crashing into the sand and receeding was Zen-like. It is always that way for me at the beach. It's my therapeutic place, my calming Utopia.
Watched the surfers for a bit, then climbed back up and had a nice 40+min of running left, which I did with renewed verve.
Thank you beach. You definitely center me and refresh me each and every time I come to visit you.
I'm jealous. :-)
ReplyDeleteWTF? Did I say you could go rock climbing in your run? I'm so very jealous.
