racing in the MUD

Sooo, I'm s'posed to race this weekend or lets just say there is a trail event thru Xterra
that I signed up for in 09' that may or may not happen up in Laguna this Sunday.  They have postponed this event twice now.  We are expecting more rain.  I can only think that maybe in the n'th hr or so that the race will be postponed again.  I guess us runners may disturb the vegetation out along the coast trail.  Tho, I've seen horses devour trails faster than MTB'ers and runners combined in my years of running trails for fun and during events.

If they want to postpone due to weather, whatever.  It can happen.  I can tell you this, I'm certainly not running a 17K with no ipod...no way, no how.  So unless I figure out a mickey mouse baggie contraption for the rain, this girl will be ok with the postponment.

As you can tell, I won't enter races longer than 10K that don't allow headphones.  I figure I'm paying a frickin decent amount of $$ for this race, if I want to wear a headset let me do so and just get over yourself Mr/Ms RD.  If you think it is a safety issue, I will sign a waiver, whatever.  I just need my tunes, if not right away, then later thru the longer miles.  I really don't get the zero tolerance for ipods, etc?  I mean, we are all adults, well a good majority of us and if we're running thru Death Valley
(where I have never seen too much traffic on the trails there) and such, so then let us run with ipods/?? thank you very much.

I was going to enter the Death Valley trail race and the Napa Valley Trail race thru Envirosports. Upon reading their info they have a strict no headphones
policy.  I respect them for that, but I won't do their race venues due to this policy, which by the way I consider totally ridiculous, specially on the trails.  If I were running said trails by myself I get the need to be totally aware of what's around you.  In all race venues you have umpteen amounts of peeps running with you during events, so if music, or whatever you listen to, can distract you slightly for a good number of miles or even one, then all is well.

Believe me, I have worn headphones and encountered a rattlesnake...ummm, no was not struck, saw him right away,
even tho I had "headphones" on.  I've seen mountain lion tracks along the trails I frequent close to where I live with headphones on, and I am aware people, I am aware.

If I feel really shaky or like I need to be more in tune with my surroundings while running, if I am wearing headphones, I will only wear one and have the other ear piece tucked away in my sport's bra.  To tell you the truth the 4-legged animals don't worry me as much as some of the 2-legged animals driving erratic give or take during random times of the day, or those that think I am their navigator/googlemap source whilst out on my runs, and basically run me into the curb in the bike lanes to ask for directions.  Like WTF people!!  Did you not know where you were headed/going in the 1st place?

I have to be honest my ipod/mp3 in the past has gotten me thru more long runs, more boooring ass marathons than I p'bly could've have done by my lonesome.  One such marathon, which was totally cool, but sorta lonely was the Alien Mary out in Vegas.
We started at midnite and ended up at Area 51 as our destination.  Tho, without my tunes, I dunno peeps, I just don't know what would have occurred.
