My $0.02 worth

K, I've had my 2.5 cups of java so far, working on the last 1/2 before I head out the door for my oh-so-fun threshold-hold, vomit inducing run today.  Like who the hell put that on my schedule?  I started a diff post early, early yesterday morn, but I figured this one I have to burp up, get out of my system as it is, then I will go back to my other post.

Last nite, I sorta was FB'ing

after watching a fantastic Lost episode that I dvr'd from the previous nite.  Tasha, who is the master of all things tri related doncha know, was in a lather (as she should be) over the person who won the bat girl contest.  As it is, she isn't even a breast CA survivor (the chick who won), but someone that had raised a considerable amount of greenbacks for the Komen Foundation (ya know the pink ribbon people).
That's pretty frickin lame if you ask me, so with that being said....follow me into my rant world that is a continuation of last nite at about 10 p.m.

First and foremost according to sources Komen has raised 1.2 billion for the elusive "search for the cure."  Unfortunately not many strides have been made in breast CA research on the side of curing or at least getting some drugs that don't kill off every living viable cell in your body whether good or bad cells = chemotherapy.  Then secondly not to sound off on Komen so much, they started out doing the right thing, but now they are a big money making corporation.  Pink ribbons are on every imaginable thing out there and then some I wouldn't ever imagine it being on, like this......like tell me this ain't CA in a bucket.

If researchers are able to pinpoint an exact Breast CA causing gene, then why can't we come up with a better way to treat this insidious disease?  Now we have young women going in to have total masectomies that don't have CA, but have the gene that might give them Breast CA in the future?  What's up with that nonsense?  I can understand their fear, and the fear that is put into them by society, news, etc.  I really and truly get that, but disfiguring yourself because of the possibility of getting this disease, NO.  What I'm saying is that if they have discovered this gene, why not a prophylactic medication, sorta like Gardasil variant (Gardasil is used for pre-treating teens and young women for Cervical CA).  Ya know, preventative medicine?  They don't have to offer a 100% "get out of Breast CA" free card.  All they have to do is offer something, that is a less destructive alternative to surgically removing your breasts.   Also find another way to treat women and men who do have Breast CA.  We've had chemo and radiation since the 70's.  Isn't it time for another route to take with all cancers without having to burn, cut, radiate and kill off good cells that support immune function.  I mean HELLO!!!  Anyone home?  It is 2010 after all.   I mean we have the Ipad, advanced military weaponry, technology for space and ocean.  We can even grow a chicken from a chick in 30 days with breasts that are 3x bigger than they were just 10yrs ago....so like WTF already people!

Time to wake up and smell the coffee, as one bright woman said back in the day.  Time to use these billions for bank rolling researchers that don't have their heads up some politician's ass, and to start doing something constructive and useful for a change in the way of cancer prevention and treatment.

Alrighty....getting off my soapbox now.

  1. Thanks dear - beautifully said. I'm SO FUCKING SICK of the usual slash and burn bullshit - like you said, what's up with the same old chemo?? I know a young woman who is now in end stage heart failure BECAUSE of chemo. And there are others who have died just because of chemo. I have a friend who's BRCA positive, so she got the whole shebang - mastectomy, oopherectomy, etc. Really, WTF? How is this any different from what they were doing 20 flipping years ago???

Ugh, it really bring me to tears.

    Love you....
