Thoughts.......

Yeah, I have those from time to time.  1st of all here is a link that you should watch  http://cbs2.com/video/?id=131133  it is in regards to Jordan Rapp a pro-triathlete who was a victim of a hit and run just this last wk and a 1/2.  I have to tell ya, if the guy who wasn't on the scene right after or near minutes after, Jordan wouldn't be here today recovering.  Props to the Hero out there!!  Also, this is why I don't ride so much anymore.  It isn't that I don't like Triathlon, which I do, but I have been run off the road x3 and pretty much almost clipped from RV/truck/car side mirrors and actual vehicles during the yrs I did Tris, and this is in wine country prior to winery hours I might have you know.  Anyhow, Jordan...heal up quickly and get back out there dude!

K, so my beef today is my Garmin.
Hunk of-a electronic shit that it is, at least that is how I feel today!  Now, making excuses for said electronic device is, that I for one don't use it all that often, so another words I don't link it to a satellite as often as I should sooooo.....  ???  Like WTH already?  I was out running with it this a.m.   Doing a progressive tempo run as it were.  Anyhow, I warmed up for about a mile or so, I look down at my Garmin, 8:12/mile pace....like what?  Damn I'm good and SAHWEET!  Tho I knew better,  cuz I know I wasn't running at that pace per my perceived exertion (PE).  Ok, whatever.  I keep going.  I notice that after 4 miles or so that I'm pacing at 9:00+min/miles, ummmm, ok whatever.  I get into my groove of tempo pace, which should be faster than a 9:00min pace (we are talking lo 8min pace peeps)...and like whaaat?  I'm still at 9ish or greater.  So I pick up my pace.  I end up racing against this stoopid device as it ends up being.  Like who is stoopid now?   I know I'm going threshold and greater...pretty much sprinting and then some.  I'm going to pop a lung or throw up, not sure which at this moment in time.

I look down at my trusty Garmin and it reads 9:37.  OMG!!!  I slow down before I pass out and pretty much walk, my Garmin reads 9:19.  Yeah, right you piece of shit!.  I start to run again, my Garmin reads 9:37...ummm, like I'm running here and not walking, so per physics I'm moving faster thru space/time.  Nope Garmin states that I'm not.  Like whatever already.  I'm ready to throw this piece of shit over towards the cows that I'm running by, which by the way have gotten out of their field and are sorta roaming.  Yeah, strange morning run it was.  Anyhow, I dunno like I stated prior, maybe I need to sync my Garmin up to the local Satellite more frequently or ??  It just irritates me, cuz I race against it and throws off my entire run/training more or less.  GRRRRRR!!!

Maybe I should just leave xtra electronic devices at home and run by effort alone at this point in time.  Personally I need to start tracking mileage if I'm frickin crazy enuf to take on a 50K in Big Bear this summer.  Like really, what was I thinking??  M pretty much thinks I'm frickin nuts and shouldn't put my bod thru that type of torture, but you know, maybe it is therapy in the long run.  If I don't die out there running, it can only make me stronger, right?  If I do die then at least I'm doing something that I enjoy and love.   Soooo like whatever already!

  1. Personally, I believe my Garmin when it says I'm going fast, and figure it's wrong when it says I'm going slow. I think that's pretty accurate. :-)

  2. Lets just say staying in the 9's whether I was going fast or slow as not pretty at all. :-/

  3. I agree. 9's aren't good for you. I don't want to be reading stuff where you are walking faster then you are running. That's just wrong...on your part. Don't blame the garmin.
